When we moved to the Saranac Lake area we searched for a passive solar home we could afford to replace the passive solar home we lived in Pompey NY. We weren't successful finding an all ready built home, but we were able to find a great south facing lot to build on.
For the last two years we have researched extensively energy efficient home building. After weighing the options we decided on straw bale because of its fantastic insulating properties and its local availability. After a few false starts we have found a builder in our area that really "gets" what we want to do with this home and is now drawing plans from our floor plans sketch to get us started.
